Delray Students First helps teens with homework, life skills

Delray Students First is a small after-school support program that reaps big results. Nine teens have earned full-ride scholarships to the college of their choice with its help.

In the free program, students get one-on-one mentoring. They can take dual high school/college enrollment classes at Palm Beach State College. Test preparation and tutoring for the ACT and SAT exams is provided.

“It has given me a guide into what I want to do in life,” said Lizeth Arzate, a junior at Village Academy. She’ll be taking two college classes during the summer. “I get help here or if I need a ride, they find a way. It’s like a second family to me.”

Currently, 23 students are enrolled.
